What is Shamanic Ecology?

From the late Greek words οἶκος meaning “house” and λογία meaning, “study of”, our home, our house, is our beloved Mother Earth. Planet Earth. Shamanic Ecology describes shamanic work and pertains to Shamanism. Shamanism is spiritual healing that dates back over 100,000 years. Shamanism is facilitated by a Shaman (spiritual healer) who helps to heal others in the hidden, invisible, and non-ordinary spiritual dimensions.

There is a beautiful saying from Chief Seattle stating, “The Earth does not belong to us. We belong to the Earth." We are gifted with Mother Earth's awesomeness. There is a grace, rhythm, and elegance that Mother Earth displays. Rare beautifulness; ancient and wild.

Shamanic Ecology is the development of embodied love (Bhakti) and connection for Mother Earth to establish sacred reciprocity (sami ayni) and create the right relationship and responsible action towards ourselves and the Earth. It is the healing of the Earth and our individual and collective wounds by means of indigenous earth traditions. It is the practice of participating in indigenous wisdom traditions that connect and engage you with the spirit of Mother Earth. Shamanic Ecology is the ability to sensitize to the Earth’s energies and allow the kausay, (life force that animates everything) of this planet to awaken in you. It is remembering your kausay (life force) merges with the kausay and the creative energies of this universe and our planet. It is to fully experience this exquisite life force—to feel energized by this spirit- to engage in this living energy- the same energy and spirit that makes apples crunchy and causes your nose to crinkle on a crisp autumn morning- it is using your body and all its senses to step into the experience of this incredible life force. To savor these moments. Because all we have are moments, that’s all we get. Moments that need to be savored and cherished. And in cherishing and savoring the moment, we begin to build new pathways in the brain.

Our long-term wellness comes from restoring the deeper connections our ancestors had with Mother Earth. We have forgotten that we are all inherently linked, that we all depend on each other for our survival. We are all interconnected to a larger ecosystem, from plants, rivers, forests, to the air. Sustainable growth is crucial. Mother Earth is our home and needs people with grit, who will fight for her and love her. It is time we take our role in our ecosystem seriously. It is time to open back up, hold gratitude and understand why we are here. It is standing with the Earth and working toward strengthening the vision of global harmony through indigenous earth practices.
