VISION QUEST

An ancient rite of passage that occurs in the wilderness. It is timeless and present in every indigenous culture.

The ceremony of vision quest has long been practiced to assist with major life transitions. Our ancestors left the comforts of home, family, food, and shelter behind in order to claim the authentic journey of their soul and share that vision with their community. Vision Quest offers an opportunity for us to discover, both intellectually and experientially, what it means to assist both self and other. We access the soul’s connection with Nature as a transcendent source of healing, wisdom, and creativity. We bring this connection back into our lives, and from it birth a life of compassionate service and vitality.

In todays culture we have become divorced from the natural world and from the ancient wisdom of living and dying. Vision Quest reconnects us. It pays tribute to each phase of life and teaches that each one of us holds a distinctive place within society and the natural world. During our quest, Mother Earth is there, and mirrors our transformation.

Phases of a Vision Quest

  • Severence

    During our preparation, we focus on our intentions. This ceremony asks our souls: what wre we doing in order for our transformation to occur and claim our birthright? What are we willing to surrender and give up?

  • Threshold

    This is a deeply transformative experience in which participants spend four days out alone on the land with no food and a minimum of material comforts. During the solo, each faster honors their separation from the physical world and much needed self-reflection. The fasters feel the liberation of losing their borders and celebrate in the deep unity and connection of that which is “mysterious and alive”.

  • Incorporation

    On the fifth morning, the fasters return to base camp, re-awakened. They share their stories and the leaders mirror their experience.
